6d6 Core, Part Two

Following on from my first review article on 6d6 Core, here's an update on what I've been doing with these new rules.

Cards, Cards, Cards!
6d6 RPG is a card-driven game. There is no character sheet and, instead, you use character cards.

Opposite is a snapshot of just six of the cards that make my patron NPC for the Serene Dawn campaign, Asperance T. Hood.

Getting to having a fully prepared Non-Player Character (NPC) took a bit of work and this is how I got there...

6d6 Online
If you are savvy you will purchase a 6d6 Online Lifetime Membership. This entitles you to full access to every product and every corner of the online wiki.

"What's that?" I hear you ask.

6d6 RPG has an online wiki, called 6d6 Online, and anyone can access the open sections of the site --> http://6d6rpg.com/wiki/doku.php

Whenever you buy a 6d6 product, such as 6d6 Core, you are given access to that product's online version (which is frequently updated) for life. All well and good.

The bigger deal, however, is that for a modest fee you can buy a Lifetime Membership to everything. With this you get access to every online product, every update, and every card... for life.

I used my membership to 6d6 Online, which comes with a personal space on the wiki, to build my stuff for the Serene Dawn campaign.

Serene Dawn Traveller
This week I took my 6d6 Online space and started to convert Traveller ideas into 6d6 cards.

If you look at Asperance, he has a bunch of different cards which include stuff like "Path Cards" and "Skill Cards". I created all of these with some very simple code on the wiki.

Each card took maybe a minute to design. Using the simple instructions on the wiki, I learned to build decks that I could output as .PDFs. Asperance took maybe 15 minutes to build as a character and output for this post.

Now I have a set of cards which I can use to start to play my campaign. Serene Dawn is a lot closer to really getting played than I could have imagined with any other system.

What's Next?
Next steps for me include equipping Asperance.

Right now, he's got some cool skills and abilities but he has no kit. Of course, it's a piece of cake to add a Laser Pistol card to his deck... as long as I give him the extra Character Points to buy it.

On top of that, I have had a cool idea about building his Type-S Scout Ship using a new form of "Starship Deck" that no-one else has invented yet. In short, I think that starships could make characterful entities with 6d6 if they were built with... cards.

I can imagine Asperance in a pickle, flying his starship, and drawing the ship's "Sweet Controls" card into his Dynamic Pool alongside that "Pilot" skill card. That would make for some exciting play and a very nice interface between character and machine.

Next instalment... Starships and Homeworlds --> how 6d6 makes the details characterful.

Until next time, "Game on!"
